Salam Omar

Iraqi artist Salam Omar has a large portfolio of abstract work in which he conveys historical traditions using innovative techniques. Omar’s pyramid shaped statues inspired by an old Iraqi ritual, are works of great visual and symbolic depth, combining diverse art practices: sculpture, painting, graphics, and ceramics to name a few. In the ‘Door’ Series - a sequence of mixed media collages inspired by the 2003 invasion of Iraq - the stenciled letters of the English alphabet constructed on bases of plastered boxes, recall the writings on the caches of weapons and the presence of the U.S. Army.
